The Methodology

Letter grades A through F, with pluses and minuses. Each office is graded in categories appropriate to its function. A separate Demeanor score is awarded where warranted. Infractions are footnoted and numbered. All grades are based on direct, in-person observation by the Editor, who sits in the front row so that nothing is missed and so that the subject is aware of being assessed. Awareness improves performance. Hebrews 4:13.
Categories by Office
Preachers — Exegesis, Delivery, Time Management, Posture, Demeanor.
Priests — Doctrinal Soundness, Liturgical Accuracy, Vestment Condition, Homily Brevity. Confessional Demeanor where applicable.
Nuns — Doctrinal Soundness, Classroom Control, Warmth Without Familiarity.
Sunday School and Young Adult Ministers — Curriculum, Snack Quality, Supervision.
Volunteers, Vergers, Drivers — Categories are created as observation requires. The Rubric reserves the right to leave a column blank when a letter cannot be assigned in good conscience. A blank is not an error.
Rules
- (1) An Overall grade may not rise until the subject has recorded two consecutive Demeanor scores at the new tier. Written Vol. I, before the Editor knew it would ever matter.
- (2) A single observation does not constitute a pattern. Two do.
- (3) Grades are final. Appeals may be submitted in writing and will be graded.
- (4) The Rubric grades what it sees. It sees a great deal.
